A fibreglass pool can offer a smooth interior finish and a choice of ready-made shell designs. Those features are useful when comparing a new pool, but they do not replace water treatment. A fibreglass pool still needs appropriate disinfection, water testing, cleaning and equipment care.

Does fibreglass mean using less chlorine?
The amount of disinfectant a pool needs depends on its treatment system, use and water conditions. A shell material alone does not justify lowering the recommended sanitiser level. Compare the operating requirements of the complete pool system rather than assuming a fixed chemical saving from the shell.
The CDC’s home-pool guidance explains that effective disinfection and pH control work together. Follow the instructions for the installed system and treatment products, and use the pool’s operating guidance to interpret test results.
A smooth surface still needs care
A smooth finish does not make a pool sterile or guarantee that algae and biofilm cannot develop. Cleaning the shell and maintaining the circulation, filtration and treatment equipment remain part of ownership. Use cleaning methods and products approved for the particular pool finish.
Water comfort depends on more than the shell
Itchy skin or stinging eyes cannot be ruled out by choosing a different pool material. The CDC notes that unsuitable pH and compounds formed when chlorine reacts with contaminants can contribute to irritation. Lowering chlorine without checking the water is not a reliable solution.

- What testing, cleaning and routine servicing will be required?
- What guidance, handover and support are included?
